Posted by Mark Evans On December - 26 - 2010

Sometimes, resolving a serious debt problem is best done with help from a trusted credit counseling agency. However, with so many organizations offering different types of debt relief services, it may be difficult to distinguish which among these companies can provide true assistance. In this article, let’s discuss the things that you can expect from a genuine credit counseling organization.

A Closer Look at Your Personal Finances

A trust-worthy credit counsellor would never suggest a solution without doing proper assessment of the client’s financial background. For instance, you should not be immediately told to apply for a debt consolidation loan unless you have finished discussing details of your debts with your counsellor. If your budget is strict enough, you can sometimes find that available resources are just not going to last until payday. Cash advance loans can help you by providing some monetary funds. You may be faced with the necessity of finding some money quickly, and that is where cash advance loans can help you immediately. The problem with a budget, even if you are able to take into consideration some unexpected slack, that is sometimes the unexpected things seem to happen simultaneously.

You can usually seek to borrow a relatively modest sum of money. For first time borrowers, the sums about $ 100-500 are common.

These are loans which have a duration of a number of days or weeks – usually until the next salary. In some cases, the repayment period can be extended. Interest on the loan is determined by the time and borrowed amount, so the more you have the loan the more it will cost.

The borrowed amount must be repaid with the agreed costs and interest, in total to the agreed date. Read more…

Hyundai, VW top insurance industry safe car list

Posted by Dale R On December - 19 - 2010

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Virginia-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has issued 66 “top safety pick” awards for the 2011 model year, it’s most ever — with imports leading the list.

The number is more than double the 27 vehicles selected last year.

South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia and German car maker Volkswagen top the list of the safest new vehicles with nine awards each.

That was followed by eight awards apiece for General Motors, Ford and Toyota. The awards, used in advertising to attract car buyers, bolster Hyundai and Volkswagen as they attempt to build a larger foothold in the United States.

Subaru and Chrysler received five awards apiece while Volvo and Mercedes had four. Subaru was the only automaker to win awards in every vehicle category in which it competes. Nissan and Honda had two awards each and Mitsubishi and BMW had one.

Barclays brings forward start date for new head

Posted by Tamara Littlejohn On December - 17 - 2010

BARCLAYS will begin 2011 with a new boss after the banking giant brought forward the start date for American-born banker Bob Diamond.

The company said the handover from current chief executive John Varley will take place on January 1, three months earlier than previously expected. Barclays chairman Marcus Agius said: “Over the last three months, John and Bob have made good progress in completing the transition. John’s view, with which I and the board agree, is that we are now ready to effect the handover.

“The speed with which the transition has been completed reflects the continuity in management and strategy that the succession provides.”

Mr Varley, who steered Barclays through the financial crisis without the need to call on government funds, will step down from the board on December 31 but is to be a senior adviser until the end of September.

Mr Diamond has been with Barclays for 14 years and built its investment banking arm into a business so large it generates more than 80% of the bank’s total profits. The 59-ye

Lawsuits Take School’s Swing Sets Away From Kids by Mike Lepage US Chamber of Commerce

Everyone has favorite childhood memories. For many people, those memories include rolling down slides, dangling off of monkey bars and swinging on swing sets at their local neighborhood playground.

But elementary school students in Cabell County, West Virginia, may miss out on some of those childhood pleasures. That is because the county’s school system has decided to remove swing sets from all school playgrounds, due to lawsuit fears. Their story is featured as part of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform’s Faces of Lawsuit Abuse campaign.

The decision came after the school district faced two different lawsuits from the same parent over relatively minor injuries suffered by his two kids in separate incidents on a school playground. Facin Read more…
